Q-Peak, Inc., located in Bedford, is presently seeking a professional with technical experience in laser technologies and/or laser engineering development who has recently or wishes to transition to the role of Program Manager. In this position, this individual will manage business area programs ranging from SBIR/STTR technology development to full qualification/EMD deliverable laser hardware as major sub-system components within the DoD environment. Q-Peak‘s program portfolio ranges from small to very large efforts, customer base extends from major prime contractors to DoD service labs and DoE research organizations, and this diversity will require the Program Manager to concurrently manage multiple programs.
Q-Peak is an established laser development and engineering firm with a commitment to the application of leading edge laser physics in solving problems for customers across a wide range of government and commercial interests. Fiber lasers, ultra-short pulse lasers, novel DPSSL designs, and non-linear optics are all on-going areas of contractual research, development, and product design. Q-Peak is a wholly owned subsidiary of Physical Sciences, Inc., one of the nation’s leading SBIR Physics, Chemistry, Optics, and Sensing firms. Q-Peak’s business is largely government oriented. Experience with Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and familiarity with the DoD 5000 procurement process is necessary. Expertise with MS Project for task oriented scheduling and labor and MS Excel are expected. The successful candidate can expect a high level of activity in supporting the technical staff with proposal preparation. Q-Peak’s customer base includes DoD, DoE, DARPA, Branch Service Labs (AFRL, NRL, ONR, ARL, etc) and the major prime DoD contractors. A frequent participant in the government’s Small Business Innovative Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR/STTR) programs, Q-Peak often works in conjunction with Universities and other technical firms. These efforts require programmatic coordination, SOW construction for sub-contracts and active monitoring of teammate performance. Regular and periodic reporting of program status to both customers and management is a major component of the position. Regular business contact with customers and partners requires excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and exceptional presentation skills.
The ideal candidate will also have the ability to collate data from multiple active and pending programs into a coherent view of labor requirements/utilization and financial performance of the business. Additional challenges exist with assisting Supply Chain Management, Engineering Data Management, Configuration Management, Inventory Control, and the introduction of ERP concepts in the overall business management scheme.
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Physics, Engineering) preferred, and/or Master’s degree in a Lasers and/or Electro-Optics technical discipline. Additionally, an MBA and/or PMP certification would be a welcome addition.
Must be a US Citizen and presently hold or be eligible for Secret level clearance.
