Chemical Sciences

Our staff of chemists and materials scientists have significant experience in the development of materials with new properties from the molecular to the macroscopic scales. They are equipped with a broad range of in-house chemical synthesis capabilities including Schlenk lines, glove boxes, centrifuges, electrochemical characterization systems, NMR, SEM, and GC/MS as well as specialized handling facilities for energetic compound and biohazard materials.

Current activities include development of fluorination chemistry of energetic heterocycles, design and application of antimicrobial polymers for medical and extreme use textiles, hybrid engineered particle obscurants and high strength carbon nanofibers.
